Before you EXPRESS OPPOSITION to this sermon on
language in the pulpit:
1) You really need to deal with the exposition that
Phil does on Titus 2:7-8 instead of just defending
your favorite preacher (i.e. Mark Driscoll of Mars
Hill Church in Seattle) that uses language in the
pulpit that Scripture condemns.
2) Read Phil's 2 blogs where he answers questions
about this sermon (either at the end of the
downloadable PDF found on this sermon page or at the
links below):

3) Consider these texts on language:
“but set the believers an example in speech, in
conduct, in love, in faith, in purity”
-1 Timothy 4:12
“in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound
speech that cannot be condemned”
-Titus 2:7-8
“For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above
reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered…
but… self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined”
-Titus 1:7-8
“Therefore an overseer must be above reproach…
respectable…”
-1 Timothy 3:1
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths”
-Ephesians 4:29
-“Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor
crude joking, which are out of place"
-Ephesians 5:4
“But now you must put them all away… obscene talk
from your mouth”
-Colossians 3:8
“the evil person out of his evil treasure brings
forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people
will give account for every careless word they speak”
-Matthew 12:34-36

Great Sermon! How sad it is that a sermon like this needs to be preached. Filthy talk from the pulpit! Who would ever believe it? I feel sick from what I heard is a common joke for Mark Driscoll to use. May he repent before it's too late.

A much needed sermon! Thank you brother Phil for speaking out loudly and clearly against the diabolical tendency of using foul and kinky language from the pulpit, stage or wherever these "actors" perform from.

Well said. This sermon itself exemplifies the principle of sound doctrine communicated through sound speech.

Great Sermon! Who would have dreamed that a sermon like this would have to be preached to those in the pulpit. Shame on you, when you think we have to become like to the world to win them to Christ Bless you Phil. I praise my Father that there is still men who love God's Word and contend for the faith.
