Is this command just an instruction not to tell lies? As with all the commandments, we discover there is much more involved when we look a little more deeply into the subject. Are we liars in any way? Have we become accustomed to boasting, exaggerating, giving a false impression, or covering up embarassing mistakes? The answer is that we are all, in some way, guilty of being false - but the wonderful counter to this is that God is always true, and cannot lie. The Lord Jesus Christ said that He was the truth. Do we know the truth? Have we been set free?
