In this final section of the letter it is very clear that the topic is ‘Christian contentment’. It is not a big secret that the Scripture commends contentment as a Christian virtue. There are many Scriptures that focus on it in particular and even health, wealth and prosperity preachers have preached on the topic of Christian contentment-it is such an obvious theme in the Scriptures that you just can’t get around it. If you are going to preach the Scriptures at some point you are going to talk about the contentment that a believer should have. However that brings us to the difficulty of the topic. If this can be preached in health, wealth and prosperity churches and churchs all across the spectrum on Christian belief, one has to come to the conclusion that the word contentment has been emptied of all meaning. It is preached and proclaimed but do we even have a meaning for it. It’s more become like a feel good buzzword. The preacher is going to preach on contentment this morning and he gives us a sermon that, quite frankly is not all that surprising-we hear the word contentment and we walk out of the assembly feeling good. And that is about it. The message had been, ‘there is contentment in the Lord Jesus Christ be had”, everyone goes, “yeah!” and they leave without being able to say that they really know what contentment is. What is a proper and true Christian contentment? This message explores several popular definitions of contentment that, when held up to the Scriptures, don’t bear out to be true. Finally, we heard what the Holy Spirit say true contentment is, how it defines our life’s purpose and meaning and and how it bears out practically in our lives.
