Previously In a pitiful and helpless condition, the believer has been shown mercy by God. As recipients of His mercy the believer walks in newness of life and is called to present their whole being to God as a living sacrifice. Offering the body to God as a sacrifice means everything is dedicated to serving Him and intended as worship.
What is done with the body outwardly is to be an expression of what God has done inwardly. Putting the whole heart, soul, mind, and strength into giving the best effort in everything that is done, even the mundane, will be honorable and pleasing to God.
Living as an offering to God means we cannot be under the influence of the world so as to be patterning ourselves and our ways after it. The starting place for thwarting the world's influence and for spiritual growth to take place is in the mind. The mind must be subjected to the Word of God and submissive to the Spirit of God. The Word of God, when so embraced by the mind will be transforming the whole being of the believer into the likeness of Christ.
