Leprosy, states one Bible Encyclopedia, "was greatly feared by the Israelites, not only because of the physical damage done by the disease, but also because of the strict isolation laws applying to leprosy, making the patients feel like feared outcasts of society ... So far as we know, the Hebrews had no cure for leprosy other than divine intervention." I share these historical facts concerning the dreaded disease of leprosy with you because leprosy provides such a striking parallel to the dreaded disease of sin! In fact, that is why as we turn to the study of our text for today as recorded for us in Zechariah 13:1 we rejoice to discover and find ourselves incredibly comforted by the fact that just as was true for the Israelites of old in Zechariah's day, so too today: For all those who by God's sovereign grace and electing love sincerely repent of their sins and profess faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior God has provided a Fountain of Forgiveness!
