The rich young ruler comes to Jesus and asks what he must do to inherit eternal life. It is very similar to the lawyer in Luke 10:25. He comes to the right person (Jesus); he asks the right question (what shall I do to inherit eternal life?); he received the right answer from Jesus, but he makes the wrong decision. So sad. Jesus loved this young man (Mark 10:21). The law does not save us (Galatians 2:16-21). It does point out our sin and our need for Jesus (Romans 3:20). For Christians, we are saved, but how much does materialism hinder our spiritual growth? This passage helps us to examine our own lives.
