Jesus turned to Pharisees in Luke 16:14 who were lovers of money and tells them of this rich man who went to hell. It must have shocked them. Wealth, in their minds (ours too?), is a symbol of God's blessing. Jesus tells us that how we use our wealth indicates where are hearts are. If we have no relationship with God and our hearts are fixed on living for self luxuriously, our eternal destination might be hell.
