The book takes aim at the human desire to orient our lives around pleasing people instead of first and foremost pleasing God.
The book is divided up into two main sections: 'Our Problem' and 'God's Solution.' Within the first section, the chapters consist of 'Characteristics of a People Pleaser' (which includes a very helpful 'People Pleasing Inventory and a 10 point list for diagnosing the spiritual disorder of people-pleasing), 'The Dangers of Being a People-Pleaser', and 'You Can't Please All of the People Even Some of the Time'.
In his definition of a people-pleaser found in this first section, he writes that 'not only does the people-pleaser love the wrong thing (the approval of man rather than the approval of God), he fears the wrong thing as well-he fears the disapproval of man more than the disapproval of God'
The second section deals with the 'Characteristics of a God-Pleaser', and 'So What Exactly Does It Take to Please God'.
On the program today, my guest will be Lou Priolo, the Director of The Center for Biblical Counseling at Eastwood Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, Al.
