At the end of Genesis chapter 19 we find a scene sordid enough to compete with the beginning of the chapter. The sin of the father is visited upon the children. Lot, who was so willing to shame his daughters, now has his daughters shame him. It is the last thing we read about Lot's life - a sad ending to any biography. But for the believer, living in light of the New Covenant and the finished work of Jesus Christ, this chapter is not about hopelessness, but about to the provision of salvation for those who place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ. And in the end we find that through Jesus Christ a descendant of Lot actually becomes a descendant of Abraham when she rejects the gods of Moab and embraces the God of Abraham.
