As we watch injustice and oppression carry the day in our own land, we realize how glorious it will be one day when our Lord Jesus carries out perfect justice against all wickedness and evil.
We read recently of a poor young man who has been imprisoned in our town for four years, awaiting a trial.
But worse than that, our state Supreme Court recently decided that five years is not too long to lock someone up waiting for a trail. The speedy trial in Mississippi is dead, and our courts refuse to enforce that sacred constitutional right, and deny the victims any relief or justice at all.
It seems that the black letter law of the land is subverted by legal tests with "prongs" that are used to justify the government breaking the law. Precedents and case law are recited to allow wicked men to subvert the people's legal rights. We make the law void by our legal traditions.
This is a characteristic of all mankind - even little children learn that it's ok to lie, so long as they have their fingers crossed. Men are adept at dreaming up "justifications" for why the law can be broken.
Jesus denounced such arguments when the Pharisees used them to escape their duties toward their aged parents. They had cooked up an "escape clause" that allowed them to neglect their mother and father. Jesus told them they had used their traditions to overturn God's clear law.
Jesus was not impressed by their legal tricks, but rather He upheld what God had commanded His people.
How glorious that in Christ's actions, we see the promise of a perfect Judge dealing out perfect Justice one day! Isaiah promised Jesus wouldn't be fooled by false statements or works that conceal truth.
