This commandment bridges both 'types' of command - it concerns our duty to the Lord, and to each other. There is more to this command than meets the eye - as it covers all rightful authority in our lives, from our parents, through to godly teachers and lawful authorities like government. What is our attitude towards authority? We see that respect for authority IS respect for God. We dishonour Him when we live in a different way.
