Paul wrote Philippians while in his 1st imprisonment. Philippians is a prison epistle. This epistle is inspired as is the prayer of Paul's. This prayer is from the heart of Paul and of Jesus. Paul wants love to abound more and more. Paul is also praying for the congregation. Vs 9 Paul is praying that love would increase their knowledge and all discernment. Love is an emotion. Knowledge is a full accurate knowledge. He is asking the Spirit to give discernment or perception. Love must stay in its boundaries (psalm 139:31-32) We must hate that which is hated by God. vs 10-11 3 purposes to have love abound 1. Approve the things that are excellent. Those things that are moral. 2. pure and blameless in the day of Christ. Pure is moral purity. 3. the glory and praise of God. this is our ultimate goal.
