Men have always sought a place in which to worship God. Whether pagan or Christian, Houses of Worship have been respected as a place to meet with the Almighty.
In our own time, such places are treated respectfully. In Mississippi, all houses of worship are exempt from property taxes. Our forefathers in America came early on to believe in liberty of conscience, and so would respect places of worship even if they did not embrace the particular faith thereof.
But today, our government increases its attacks against places of worship, and so do corrupt heads of religious denominations.
Too often, people replace God with a building. They substitute the feelings and atmosphere of their house of worship with true Worship, which Jesus told us was to be in spirit and truth. To take away a house of worship is, for too many people, to destroy their religion altogether.
The Jews in Jesus' day had reached that point, and so they were offended at His claim to be greater than the Temple. They falsely accused Him of threatening to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, but He spoke of His body.
They taunted Him as He hung upon the cross with this false accusation, all the while not realizing that they were fulfilling his prophecy, that they would destroy His body.
But He kept His word to raise it back up again in three days!
He is our Sacrifice, and His body is our temple. That is why nobody can destroy our true House of Worship ever again! Our House is with us when we gather together.
Oh that Believers would glory in the beauty of the true House of Worship, our Savior! Then all the houses made with hands would be wasted upon us!
