Summary: The time period referred to as the
thousand years, which begins with the binding of
Satan and ends with Christâ€™s Second Coming, both of
which are defined in other passages, seems best
understood as the current age, and as a symbolic
reference to an indefinite period of time whose
conclusion is known only to God, and is described
here from an earthly and a heavenly perspective.
Introduction: Some basic rules of interpretation
can help prevent common errors in interpreting this
Rule #1. Always interpret the Old Testament in the
greater light of the New Testament, not vice-versa.
Rule #2. Always interpret according to the analogy
of faith â€• i.e., the clear, well-supported truths of
Rule #3: Always interpret obscure passages in light
of clearer ones.
Rule #4: Understand the authorâ€™s mode of discourse
before attempting to interpret. Scripture is
