Around the Lord's Table, we speak of the glorious beauties of our King Jesus, made to be our Prince and our Savior, to grant us repentance and forgiveness of sins!
Paul wrote that we give thanks to the Father for our Lord Jesus, Whom He gave up for us at Calvary. He is The Lamb of God Who was slain in our place, to pay for our crimes.
It is all God's work, through the Holy Ghost, that brings us to Christ and changes us to be fit to enter into the inheritance of everlasting life through Jesus' blood. By ourselves, we would never come, and we would never trust.
God has delivered us from the power of darkness! What a power darkness is. We see it all around us in sinners, oblivious to their sin and the wrath they are under. They are under the shroud of darkness, and they cannot come to the Savior.
Unless the Holy Ghost causes the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ to shine into their hearts, poor dead sinners will never trust in Jesus.
All of the Lord's people were bound by the power of darkness, until God delivered us from that power! Then we saw the judgment we were under, and the urgent need for a Deliverer, and only then could we flee to Jesus.
That King that we have come to adore, is the One Who laid down His life to save us. He grants us repentance when we could never repent on our own. He grants us forgiveness for sin, when we could never escape it ourselves.
Nobody ever heard of any ruler in our world who would personally pay for the crimes of his own subjects, but Jesus did that for His people! He is a ruler that laid down His Own life to save His poor people!
So we give thanks around His Table this Lord's Day, great things He has done!
