The Bible reveals that there will be two stages to Christ's second coming.
The first will be His return in the air for believers, both those alive and those who have died during the church age, who will be caught up to meet Him in the air. Taken from the Greek word harpazo which means to be caught up, and later translated into Latin as rapturo, is often referred to by the transliterated word rapture. This catching up of believers from the earth was revealed to the apostle Paul as the next event for the Church and imminent.
The second stage of His return will be to earth to set up His kingdom. With this return to the earth He will bring with Him those believers who were caught up to meet Him in the air and have been with Him in heaven during the time of the great Tribulation on the earth.
