This sermon was originally preached in 1879 at the Metropolitan Tabernacle. C.H. Spurgeon divides the message into two main headings, 1) A state of peace with God (as an objective, legal status), and, 2) Faith gives us the sense of peace.
Peace is the state where two parties previously at odds with each other are brought to oneness. Justification in the court of heaven must first be accomplished before the believer can know that sense of peace in the soul. But beyond justification, warfare exists between the believer and the ancient enemies of Satan, the world, and remaining sin. Mr. Spurgeon addresses these realities using the perspective of the whole counsel of God.
