Why “the wilderness? The Israelites would know the wilderness to be a place of exile, a place of rebellion, a place of sin, a place of discouragement, and a place of death. It is here that Christ comes as the last Adam (I Cor 15:45) to bring His people out of the wilderness and into His restored paradise.
Our message (the story we should love to tell) must be a call to repentance with the glorious promise of forgiveness. Further, it must point with singular clarity to the powerful person and work of Christ Jesus as the ONLY way of salvation.
