This passage addresses what we call materialism today. Materialism is not owning stuff or having money. You do not have to have material things to be materialistic. You can be wealthy without being materialistic. Materialism is having too high a valuation of money or things. Materialism destroys testimonies, relationships, and ministries. A Biblical view of money or possessions is stewardship. I need to ask myself 3 questions: Am I content with what I have? Do I use what I have the way God intended? Who wins the conflict between God and gold?
