SERMON INFO
David's treatment of the poor, lame Mephibosheth is a picture of Christ's treatment of poor lost sinners whom the Father draws unto Him.

With Mephibosheth, every Saint can exclaim, "Who am I, that Thou shouldest honor such a dead dog as me!"

Indeed, the food meant for the children has been given to the dogs under the table - even unto the Gentiles! - but we too have been made sons by the blood of the Lamb!

The last thing said about Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9 is this: that he did always eat at the king's table, and he was lame in both his feet.

So too the Saints, for we are still lame, and unworthy in ourselves to partake of Christ's feast. We are still encumbered with physical and moral and spiritual lameness. We are sick, we stumble, we die; we fall into temptations, we have imperfect faith, we never love the Lord as we ought. We do always eat at the King's table, and still we are lame. Our lameness reminds us of the unmerited favor we have received from our God.

But our King Jesus is far better and far more powerful than King David. David could never cure the lameness of Mephibosheth, but our Redeemer has promised to use His almighty power to abolish all the lameness in the people of God!

He has already cleansed and justified us. He has already clothed us with perfect garments of Righteousness. But one day He will raise us up with glorified bodies. He will change our vile bodies like unto His glorious body.

Isaiah foretold that when God's Messiah appeared, even the lame would leap with joy. Indeed, Christ's ministry was full of the healing of lame men.

Those are but tokens of the perfect healing the Saints will receive in Glory!

“ A Wonderful Sermon! ”
A truly wonderful sermon by Pastor Pittman Hey. He brigs out the difference between the 'types' and 'foreshadows' that point to Christ and the real thing itself. David could only give Mephibosheth a place at his table, but could do nothing concerning his lameness. But our David, the Lord Jesus has promised to give us complete redemption, both body and soul. We shall be like Him is the promise. A truly touching sermon, not just for the physically disabled in the Church, but to all of us who know our spiritual lameness and leprosy before God. A must hear sermon!
