There are may important points in this passage, here are three that Pastor Wood focuses on. 1) Jesus is the way and the only way. 2) Jesus came to give us abundant life. 3) Those who belong to Jesus will recognize Him and follow Him. Many times Jesus spoke in a way so that people did not understand. This is explained when Jesus said that "My sheep hear My voice and follow Me." The relationship between the sheep and the Good Shepherd is a two way street. Not only do His sheep know His voice, but He knows His sheep and calls them by name. The only way for us to be saved is for Jesus to die in our place. Jesus is able to do what He does, because His Father gives Jesus His commands. God loves us beyond our comprehension. Jesus states that if we belong to Him, we will follow Him. Obedience is the mark of His followers and what Biblical faith is all about. Are we truly following Jesus? Even if we believe the scriptures are true, if we do not long to do what Jesus commands, we are not followers of Jesus. Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Jesus offers life and if we believe Him and obey Him, we will find life in fullness. There are times when God says things so plainly, and yet some people want to pray that God will make an exception for them to sin. If we received what we earned we would be destroyed in Hell. Instead, God, in His mercy, sent Jesus so that we might be saved.
