With Judas now departed and the disciple’s hearts greatly humbled by the words of our Lord in Chapter 13, Christ now begins in Chapter 14 to declare one of the greatest truths in the entire Word of God.
"Let not your heart be troubled: Ye believe in God, believe also in me" (Verse 1). With these words our Lord would begin to declare the importance of their believing in Him and His oneness with the Father. This was a great truth which the disciples should have realized and seen throughout His ministry amongst them, but were yet ignorant to it. Now, on the eve of His crucifixion, Christ would clearly declare unto them His oneness with the Father.
"Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip?" (Vers 9)
What a glorious and blessed truth! One which they, like all believers, should find great comfort and strength in. May our hearts grow ever more fervent in our love for Christ and His glorious salvation! And may our hearts be forever humbled before God the Father for His "Unspeakable gift of love and mercy in, and through Christ Jesus!
