In the previous section the psalmist spoke as a youth in need of guidance in his ways, as one just starting out in the way. Now in this section his mind is still upon his walk in the way but now he speaks as a servant and a pilgrim and he sees ever increasingly that he is a stranger in enemy territory.
We see that this is a man who knows God as his heavenly father for he speaks as a son to a father, there is an intimacy here, a directness, he speaks as if he were speaking to a friend. If we are Christians we ought to know God as our father, we ought to have boldness to come before him and ask of him as a child would his father.
