The “if” of the text: - “if sinners entice thee” is not a qualifier that makes the father a fool to think that his son may go through this new venture without being enticed to sin. Rather he knows that without doubt his boy will be actively recruited into the snares and slime pits of the world of sin. This world is like a hiring market where the worst of employers call out, ‘come with us and we will employ you in a great cause' – but their end is to hire the talents and gifts of the innocent to put them to work to serve their wicked schemes. Young men and women need to be on guard as they set out into this world. It is a place where sinners will make the approach to entice them to sin. It seems that the world can never have too many recruits to fill the positions of evil and wickedness. Indeed that is the picture here - there is a labour shortage for evil doers and every young person is pleaded with to come and join the ranks of sinners to do their evil work and promote their sinful ways.
