Several years ago there was a popular little song that said, "Don't Worry, Be Happy!" While this is very good advice, the statement doesn't really help us defeat the evil we call worry. The Bible is not silent on the problem of worry. In fact, in this little epistle to the Philippians, which Paul wrote from a Roman prison cell, he counsels the Philippians on how they can be free from the demon of worry. His counsel is contained in 4:6-9.
In our exploration of this paragraph, we will find Paul's advice is couched in three statements. In verse 6 he gives us the Principle – "Stop being anxious about anything." He followed with the Promise in verse 7, "The peace of God will garrison your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Finally, in verses 8-9 Paul described The Practice That Will Lead to Lasting Peace in our lives. I. The Principle (v. 6) II. A Promise (v.7) III. The Practice (v.8-9)
