Psalm 37 is a wisdom psalm, to teach us how to relate to the wicked in a fallen world. When we look to the world, we will envy them, because our flesh is attracted to the world. But as we fix our hope on the future inheritance of the land (the new heavens and the new earth), it affects how we live in the land today. David teaches that we are to put off envy, fear, and fretting. But in order to live wisely, we are to put on trust in the LORD, to do good, to dwell in the land, to cultivate integrity, and to delight ourselves in God. As we gaze on Christ, the treasures of this world will pale in comparison to Him.
