He was our leader and inspiration for the next 31 years, until he suffered a disabling stroke in April 2003. Pastor Kellys presence is sorely missed, and he is still greatly loved and appreciated by those of us he served so sacrificially. Our love and prayers are with him and his family.
P.S. He had several strokes leading up to his last one in 2003, so you may notice a difference in his speech in some of his newer sermons. Please pray for him.
Pastor R. Kent Kelly, 65, of Southern Pines, went to be with the Lord he loves on Friday night, August 1, 2008. He was surrounded by his family and many of his friends.
A graduate of Wingate College, he also served in the U. S. Coast Guard and then returned to Southern Pines. He was the founder of Calvary Memorial Church, Calvary Christian School and the Creation Museum housed in The Christian Bookstore, which he co-owned with his sister. He was pastor of the church for almost 40 years, and served as administrator of the school for 30 years. | more | less
