Chaplain (COL) David P. Peterson, was born in 1941 in Lemmon, South Dakota. He graduated from Lemmon High School in 1958, Covenant College in 1962, and Covenant Theological Seminary, St. Louis, MO, 1965. He was ordained as a Presbyterian Minister in July 1965. In November 1965 he entered active duty as a Chaplain. He served two terms in Vietnam. In 1990 he was assigned to the US Central Command (CENTCOM) as the Command Staff Chaplain where he served as the Senior Military Chaplain during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He retired from active duty in 1995.
Since retiring from the US Army, Chaplain Peterson has served as the Executive Director of the Presbyterian and Reformed Joint Commission on Chaplains and Military Personnel (PRJC) and Coordinator for Chaplain Ministries, Mission to North America. The PRJC endorses chaplains for the PCA, Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC), Reformed Presbyterian Church In North America (RPCNA), Korean-American Presbyterian Church (KAPC), and the Korean Presbyterian Church In America (KPCA).
Chaplain and his wife, Sandy, are parents of three children, Col. Jeffrey D. Peterson, US Army, West Point Academy, J'Lane (Peterson) Dunning, Camp Pendleton, Calif., and Julie (Peterson) Durfield, Shreveport, La., and grandparents of thirteen grandchildren. His awards include: The Distinguished Service Medal; Legion of Merit (2 OLC); Bronze Star (2 OLC); the Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC); Air Medal; the Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC).
