“A gracious woman retaineth honor: and strong men retain riches.” Proverbs 11:16

How bright the light of God’s wisdom shines into a world of confused and darkened thinking! Heed the Word of God in this passage, and find freedom, joy, and light. How are honor, respect, and praise measured, particularly for women? This question has been the battleground of American society for at least the last generation. The commonly accepted answer has been some combination of beauty, sex appeal, and ambition. But a generation later, the question now is? How is this honor retained? Career ambition has led to disillusionment in many women’s experience. The goal of sex appeal has resulted in fractured marriages and the portrayal of women as objects of animalistic desire. The quest to retain natural beauty is a constant source of frustration and disappointment. What does God say? A woman that has the grace of God in her heart, that strives to be virtuous, that is not consumed with seeking attention, that seeks the approval of God over the stares of man – this woman retains her honor. Her honor comes from the Spirit of God within as opposed to the temporary and fickle standards of man. God’s wisdom truly is freedom for those who believe and heed His word.
