Everyday Wisdom | Proverbs 9:10

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10

Think about the phrase “the knowledge of the holy.” It has a majestic ring to it, doesn’t it? The holy is the inner sanctum, the sacred, the dwelling place of God. The Old Testament clearly relates how unapproachable God is in His nature. Only the high priest could enter the dwelling place of God, and even then, only under unique and specific conditions. Uzzah dropped dead after touching the holy.

Nadab and Abihu were slain after profaning the holy. The Holy God is mysterious, off limits, fearful.

But Jesus, the Mediator between holy and unholy, sacred and common, has made the Holy God approachable! Jesus, the Word of God, is the expression, the unveiling, the manifestation, of a God, whose glory is blinding. How blessed we are to be able to attain knowledge of the Holy. And in learning of the Holy One through Christ, we achieve true understanding. What will you do with the knowledge that you are able to obtain knowledge of the Holy? Will this not spur you on to faithfully laboring in the Scriptures to learn more of God, and to apply this knowledge to your life?
