CALL TO WORSHIP

(Tune – Like a River Glorious – p. 287)

(Words by Pastor Jim Byrd)

You who trust the Savior, glory in His Name;

Jesus came to cleanse us from our guilt and shame;

He alone could save us from our lost estate,

Praise the great Redeemer, mighty Potentate.

CHORUS: Praise the name of Jesus, Let your voices soar,

Praise the name of Jesus, Praise Him evermore.

With His sacrifice the Lord was satisfied,

By His bloody death our souls were justified;

Risen from the grave He evermore shall reign;

Christ our Intercessor soon will come again.

CHORUS:

None can save but Jesus, look to Him we must,

O that Christ the Lord would be our only trust;

May the Holy Spirit grant that we would see,

Christ alone can save us for eternity.

CHORUS:

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Debbie and I will be leaving Tuesday to go to Ashland, KY, where I will be preaching at the Thirteenth Street Baptist Church for Pastor Jim Byrd on 9/13, 9/17, and 9/20. I do not like being gone two Sundays in a row, but before this preaching trip was scheduled, we had already planned a vacation with our family the following week, so we will be gone Sunday, 9/24. Brothers Randy Wages, Mark Pannell, Jim Casey, and Jason Renfroe will be filling the pulpit during my absence. Pray for all of us as we prepare to preach, and please pray for Debbie and me as we travel.

Also, please remember to think about and pray for our upcoming Gospel meetingwith Pastor Richard Warmack onOctober 6-8. Services will be Friday (10/6) at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday (10/7) at 11:00 a.m.; and Sunday morning (10/8) at our usual time. We need to decide on if we want to serve lunch here at the church either on Saturday or Sunday after the services. As soon as we decide, I will publish a schedule for the meeting in the bulletin. –Pastor Bill Parker

LIFE IS A JOURNEY

A believer sets out on this journey of life, and he has to travel many a day before he reaches his home. MY WHAT CHANGES HE EXPERIENCES ALONG THE WAY! Today it is fair; the next day there is a thunderstorm. Today he is on the mountain; tomorrow he is in the valley. Such is our journey – ever changing! But one thing is sure and never changes – OUR LORD AND HIS WORD. I don’t know WHAT tomorrow holds, but I know WHO holds tomorrow. I don’t know where my road may WIND, but I know where it will END! So, amid all the changing times and seasons, I will look to HIM Who said, “I am the LORD I change not, therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” —Copied

A seed shall serve Him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. They shall come, and shall declare His righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that HE hath done this. –Psalm 22:30-31

Our sins were crucified with Christ. They were put to death when He died, for He was our covenant head, and we were legally represented by Him. The law has no more right to condemn us than it has to condemn Him. Justice is bound to deal with us as it has with our Saviour. "He that is dead is freed" from the sin for which He died; so are we! If we do not see this complete mortification in Him, sin will reign in us. No sin can be crucified in heart or life unless it be first pardoned in conscience. If the believer does not see HIS PERFECT DEADNESS IN CHRIST, he will open wide a door to unbelief. If a believer does not see HIS COMPLETENESS IN CHRIST, he leaves room for attacks of self-righteousness and legalism. If Christ be not all, self will feed personal merit and importance. –William Romaine (1714-1795)

SALVATION AND SUBMISSION

Salvation and submission are inseparable things. When we are saved by grace, we are brought to submit to God’s way of saving us and forsake our way. Thus any and all religious zeal and outward righteousness apart from the truth of the Gospel of Christ is rebellion against God! This is because it is a failure to submit to the righteousness of God in Christ! This is what Paul said of his own people and what must be said of all outside of Christ – “For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.” (Rom. 10:3) –Pastor Gary Shepard

GOOD NEWS

But now mercy and truth have met together (Psalm 85:10); now grace is righteousness and righteousness is grace. This satisfies the sinner's conscience by showing him righteous love for the unrighteous and unlovable. It tells him, too, that the reconciliation brought about in this way shall never be disturbed, either in this life or that which is to come. It is righteous reconciliation and will stand every test, as well as last throughout eternity. The peace of conscience, thus secured, will be trial-proof, sickness-proof, deathbed-proof, judgment-proof. Realizing this, the chief of sinners can say, "Who is he that condemneth?" –Horatius Bonar
