Too Many Friends - Broadcast for February 22, 2013

One of my “friends” on Facebook is having troubles because when his friends list exceeds 5000 they shut him down. You can’t have too many friends accept on Facebook.

In John 6:2 we read: Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased. (John 6:2)

Jesus and the disciples sat on a mountain and looked up to see the multitudes making their Passover pilgrimage to Jerusalem. They were looking for Jesus because He did miracles. They wanted to see Him heal the diseased and some of them wanted to be healed. They were curious about what Jesus would teach and what He would do. I am sure that most of them would have “friended” Jesus or at least “liked” Him.

The compassion of Jesus to minister to the needs of the multitudes and the individuals drew people to Him, because Jesus could meet their needs. They ranged from the curious to the committed. Jesus did miracles and the people flocked to see Him. Many follow Jesus today, some just curious and some committed. But He has no trouble having too many friends. He won’t be blocked or hindered because so many come. You can become a friend of Jesus simply by accepting Him and asking Him to come into your life and to change your heart. There is no like button and nothing to sign up for, just by faith believing in Him and entering into a friendship unlike any you have known.
