Wisdom for Life's Trials - Broadcast for January 21, 2013
It was raining as I loaded my little family into the car and as I started to back out the brakes locked up. So I got out and fixed that, started again and noticed that a tire was flat. These annoyances were getting the best of me and I raised my eyes toward heaven and asked God: "Why me?" I stood there in the rain waiting for an answer. To my surprise, the Lord spoke to me in that quiet voice and said; "Why not you?" I burst out laughing and changed my tire.
In James 1:5 we read: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5 NKJV) I have learned in the many years since then that when I am in a trial I need to pray for wisdom. I needed wisdom to cope with the difficulties. I already knew how to change a tire and fix the brakes; I didn't know how to deal with the pile of troubles that were heaping up upon me.
More than anything else, that I have asked God for, I have asked for wisdom. I even ask for wisdom when things are going well. It is a prayer He always answers when I ask in faith. I have more knowledge on how things work now but I still need help navigating life; especially the spiritual struggles. The Lord gives liberally. When life’s trials pile up on you, pray! Ask God to give you wisdom. He will always answer that prayer when you ask believing He will.
