How many of you love to argue? OK, I see your hands you can put them down now. I've grown weary of arguing but still find myself ready to engage immediately in all kinds of unprofitable discussions. Politics, doctrines, conspiracies, gossip; all of these can pull us into conversations that do no good.

In Jeremiah 28:11 we read: And Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the space of two full years.’ ” And the prophet Jeremiah went his way. (Jeremiah 28:11 NKJV)

As a radio talk show host; for years, I would get debate instead of discussion. It usually had to do with some pet doctrine like: Sabbath worship, or could Jesus sin, or did Mary have other children besides Jesus. The list is long and I found that these are usually unwinnable arguments because there is no convincing someone who is already convinced.

When Jeremiah was confronted with the untruthful prophecy and actions of Hananiah, he simply went his way; he didn't get into an argument with Him he just went home. Later, when the Lord gave him something to say, he returned. What a great example; wait on the Lord and then speak. God's word never returns void, but ours often does. So, therefore we should wait for the Lord to speak; His word is always profitable.
