In Luke 4:18 we read: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:18-19 NKJV)
We first find these words in Isaiah 61 where the Messiah's ministry is foretold. Then again in Luke 4 when Jesus reads in His hometown Synagogue. This was the ministry of Christ! He was to preach the gospel to the poor; heal the brokenhearted; proclaim liberty to the captives; give sight to the blind, set at liberty the oppressed and to proclaim Gods grace. All of this under the anointing of the Spirit of the Lord.
This differs little from the call of God upon us. We have been given the Spirit of the Lord and must proclaim the gospel; heal the brokenhearted; proclaim liberty to the spiritually bound; to open eyes to the truth; to set free those oppressed by sin and hurt and to proclaim God's grace. This is the calling of every believer and with special anointing on those called to preach and teach the Word of God. Now that we know what to do, let's go do it in the anointing of the Spirit of the Lord.
