My favorite truck had been stolen. I looked everywhere; in the front yard, under the porch, in my room, everywhere. Then I figured out that the little boy around the corner had taken it. I wanted to go get it back, but my fast fingered friend had a big brother who was like a giant to me, so I took my big brother with me, and we got my truck back. What a awesome big brother.
Boy did the Prophet Jeremiah need a big brother. He was being thumped on for speaking out. He called on the king and the nation to repent and follow the Lord or face certain destruction. Instead of repenting, they publicly beat Jeremiah and then put him on display overnight in stocks, a torture device. This was hard on Jeremiah and he wanted to quit. He wanted God to deal harshly with those who dealt harshly with him.
In the midst of the fear and turmoil and disappointment Jeremiah penned these words: But the Lord is with me as a mighty, awesome One. Therefore my persecutors will stumble, and will not prevail. They will be greatly ashamed, for they will not prosper. Their everlasting confusion will never be forgotten. (Jeremiah 20:11a NKJV)
God has sent His son, our awesome big brother, who has taken the punishment for our sin and has redeemed and reconciled those who believe in Him to God. He is mighty and awesome and victorious. Whatever we face in this life, we have our awesome Lord praying for us and interceding on our behalf and with whom we will spend eternity. Now that's awesome.
