Put on Display - Radio Broadcast for November 15 In my early teens I was utterly convinced that wherever I went people were noticing all my flaws. I took great care with my cloths and grooming but it didn't help because everywhere I went I felt like I was on display. In Jeremiah 20:2 we read: Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the Lord. (Jeremiah 20:2 NKJV)
Jeremiah really was put on display- publicly beaten and put in stocks in a prominent place at the entrance of the temple. All this for speaking out the word of Lord. The message was of judgment for the sins of the kings and the people of Judah. In the message was the mercy of God, a call to return to the Lord. This was the first time Jeremiah had experience physical persecution for his ministry, but it would not be his last. In his case people really were watching him, looking at what he did and said. For each of us, we also are noticed if we proclaim the word of The Lord. How we live is noted, what we say, where we go. Paul spoke of being put on display and it is true. What do people see when they look at you?
We are displayed and need be always ready to give a reason for our faith, most likely to be examined during a time of unfair suffering. God allowed Jeremiah to be displayed as He did His Son Jesus. We are on display, what do people see.
