Have you met the man who felt like his deeds were too evil to forgive? Or, have you met the person who is convinced that, on the whole, they are good have no real need of God’s forgiveness? How about the religious who believe they are saved because of their good works or church membership?
In Jeremiah 17:9 we read: “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9 NKJV) In this verse we find the condition of the human heart: polluted and incurable. The human heart and spirit are possessed of such wicked selfishness as to render it beyond cure. But there is hope in the next verse we read: I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. (Jeremiah 17:10 NKJV)
The Lord is able to read the heart and to cleanse and cure it. He will reward every man or woman according to the course of life their heart has followed. Only the Lord can do this! None of us can adequately know our own hearts but as compared to Christ, to agree that it is desperately wicked always seeking some personal advantage.
The cure for such a heart is to give it to God. Let God chart the course of your life. You can give your life to God today by believing in His Son Jesus. Say out loud: "I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that God has raised Him from the dead." As you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart you will be saved.
