The Power of God - Radio Broadcast for November 2, 2012 The church has turned into a daytime television talk show. The trend in some churches is to have a man and woman, often husband and wife and the pastors of the church, on stage doing a mini panel discussion on the subject of the day. Sometimes the discussion is informative and helpful and scriptural; but often is missing the power of God. We might as well play a video of Oprah or the View.
In Romans 1:16-17 we read: For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” NKJV
The power of God is in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The power to save, to heal, to repair, to redirect, to instruct, to equip, to complete. The greatest use of time together in church is when we hear the word of God taught clearly; the gospel of Jesus Christ presented clearly and the invitation to follow Christ given clearly so that all may come in to the power of the Gospel.
We need the preaching and teaching of God’s word to return to the center of our gatherings as the church. It is the Word of God that washes us and without that continual washing we soon lose our identity as believers. We don’t need self help lectures, or cooking classes; we need the power of God to salvation and the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith. Notes and comments © 2012 by Ronald C.
