I took my family on a tour of my childhood. We drove through some of the Wyoming towns trying to find the places I had lived and otherwise bored my kids to tears. But one town was kind of creepy. It smelled of sulfur and when we stopped for dinner everyone in the restaurant stared at us while we ate. I have little desire to revisit that town.
In Jesus day the region of Galilee was despised by the Jews of Jerusalem. It was considered backward and awkward and generally a place to avoid. But Jesus was from there and most of His ministry was done there.
In John 7:52 we read: They answered and said to him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.” NKJV This a rebuke to Nicodemus who lobbied the council to give Jesus a fair hearing. It seems that being from Galilee was to them a capitol offense.
Jesus was born in Bethlehem but actually came out of heaven. The rulers rejected Jesus and His message, instead they did to Him what they had done to every prophet who foretold His coming. including Isaiah. they killed Him.
It doesn't matter so much where you are from but you are going. Jesus came from heaven and returned to heaven making it possible for us to go there too if we believe in Him. This is your opportunity- do you want to receive Christ into your heart? If you do just call on His name, believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead and you will be saved.
