Imagine being America’s most wanted fugitive. Everywhere you went there was the risk of capture and death. But, you had never been charged with a crime, or given a chance to know why you were to be arrested. Jesus was in such a situation. The rulers wanted Him dead and had pronounced His death even before devising charges against Him. But one of the rulers objected: everyone deserves a fair hearing, even God.
In John 7:51-52 we read: Nicodemus (he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them, “Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?” Jesus wasn't even accused of anything and the rulers wanted Him executed. Nicodemus, one of their own spoke up. He was a secret believer in, Jesus, unwilling to profess His faith but insistent that Jesus be given a fair hearing before He was judged.
So many have made up their minds about God and about His Son Jesus without ever giving Him a fair hearing. They accept the charges made, the untruths given, the slander spoken but never investigate to see if Jesus could really be God's Son. There are a few, like Nicodemus, who have examined and have decided that God is true and that Jesus is truth.
Have you given God a fair hearing or do you simply believe the slander of this world. To start, pray and ask God to show you that He is real; God responds to the earnest seeker. Then, get a Bible and start reading the gospel of John; God will soon be speaking to your heart. If you will give God a fair hearing, you will soon be like Nicodemus, a believer in Jesus.
