I was joking with a friend when something flew by my head, nicked my ear and hit the wall behind me with a loud thud. The teacher had thrown one of those big erasers at me because I was not paying attention to his words. He was trying teach me to add or subtract or talk or something and I wasn't listening.
In John 7:45-46 we read: Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why have you not brought Him?” The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this Man!” NKJV
When Jesus spoke, people listened. Not that they always agreed with Him but still they listened because the Word of God was speaking the Word of God. The officers were tasked with arresting Jesus and bringing Him to the council. Jesus was a threat to their power and their peace. But the officers heard Jesus speak and forgot to arrest Him. How could they when the Word so directly impacted their hearts.
I know men who have read the Bible to prove that God didn't exist only to have that very Word speak to their hearts and convert them to Christ. The Officers were unwilling to arrest Jesus but instead were arrested by the Words He spoke. When the Word speaks hearts are changed. Are you listening? There are opportunities to chose Christ and this is one of those moments in time while you still can. Jesus is the Word of Life who wants to give you life if you will receive Him.
