I needed to buy some new socks so I jumped online to look. Target had 1089 choices for socks. I found similar results at other stores as well. They all had everything except for the particular socks I wanted. I bought a six pack of socks at Costco, not the color I wanted but they will do the job. There is one thing that almost every adult wants, and that is to make a choice. That is why we have 500 television channels, two hundred brands of cars, hundreds of flavors of coffee and the lists of varieties seem to be endless, because, we like choices.
In John 6:68 we read: But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."
Jesus asked the twelve disciples if they also wanted to depart as had the rest of His disciples. The departing disciples had made their choice, they had rejected Jesus as Messiah. He wasn’t the variety they were looking for. But what about the twelve? Would they also leave Jesus? Peter answers for the rest: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
Peter saw the obvious: there was no other choice. No one else had the words of eternal life. There was no other messiah waiting for them. Jesus was the only choice, no where else to go. Two thousand years later there is still no other, Jesus is the only Messiah, the only Lord, the only way to life. Have you made that choice? Have you trusted in the only one with the words of eternal life? “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12
