Would you name your baby boy Judas? It used to be such a popular name and it had such great meaning; "he shall be praised." Why do we shy away from that wonderful name? Well, after the disciple, named Judas, betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver; "Judas" has come to mean betrayer!
In John 6:64 we read: But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. (NKJV)
Isn't it interesting that Jesus would equate unbelief with betrayal? The departure of the majority of His disciples was not surprising to Jesus as He knew from the beginning who would betray Him. And He still knows those who follow but don't believe. There are many who make up Christian culture who simply attend to the things of faith with having true faith.
Recently a friend posted that I was preaching to the choir. It occurs to me that the choir needs preaching to! Are you an attending unbeliever? You faithfully attend church services but your heart remains unchanged? Do you find comfort in the moral guidance but reject the one who brings grace and truth? If so, you're the choir I'm preaching to! Don't be of the group that will betray Christ when the hard times or hard sayings come. Be the one who declares that Jesus is the Word of Life; the Lord, the resurrected Savior!
