Are We Cannibals? Radio Broadcast for September 6, 2012 Cannibalism, just the word sends shivers down the spine. What a grotesque thought, what an awful thing.
In John 6:52 we read: The Jews therefore quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?”
Jesus is the Bread of Life and if you eat of this bread you will have eternal life. But, Jesus has introduced a stumbling block by declaring that the Bread of Life is His flesh. This caused the crowd to draw back in revulsion and ask, how can this man give us His flesh to eat? What does He mean by this?
If Jesus did give them His flesh, He would die. This would be unusual that a man would die to give life to others. By what means would Jesus make His flesh available so that they could eat it? The answer, by becoming the sacrifice for sin, by dying on the cross. His flesh would be consumed by death so that all who partake of Him may live.
The Passover lamb was killed, cooked and consumed. The blood of the lamb marked the home of the redeemed. Jesus is the ultimate Passover , as His death brought forgiveness of sin and marked the redeemed with His blood. We partake of Christ by believing in Him, by receiving Him into our hearts, by accepting His death as the means of our forgiveness. As we do this we are given eternal life.
To have eternal life you must partake of Christ, you must believe in Him and take His sacrifice into yourself. Then life enters and you enter life.
