Jesus or Manna

Every Sunday just about the time my dad started to preach, the smell of Sunday dinner would waft through the church. We lived in the church basement and my mom would put a roast with potatoes and carrots in the oven right after breakfast to be served sometime after church. It was always delicious with gravy and fresh homemade bread, what a feast. But later in the day, we were all hungry again.

In John 6:48-50 we read: I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.

Jesus compares the manna in the wilderness with the Bread of Life. All who ate the manna were filled for the meal, and satisfied for the day, but each day had to gather, prepare and eat more manna or they would have starved. The manna met the daily need but had to be eaten over and over again to sustain life.

The Bread of Life only need be consumed once, partaken of once, taken in once and that is it. If you eat of the Bread of Life, it once and for all satisfies the hunger of the soul. The Bread of Life is the true Soul Food, that lasts for eternity. It is a striking comparison between the sacrifices offered for sin, over and over again; and Jesus who would be offered once for sin and that was enough.

How do you get this bread? By believing in Jesus Christ and receiving Him as savior. When you believe you are partaking of Him and then you are for eternity settled into His grace. You are forgiven your sins and have eternal life. Take Christ in today.
