Hate is too great a burden to bear." Martin Luther King, Jr.
Among Christians today (at least in the circles I live in) the segregation of churces is due more to cultural diversity and ethnical prefernces rather than racial prejudice and hostility. I am very thankful that this is the basis for the segregation witnessed among the body of Christ rather than intolerance based upon the color of one's skin. However, we should endeavor to experience more diversity in our churches through visitation among differing ethnicities and by overlooking cultural distinctions that divide churches that we might be unified in the essentials of doctrine.
1. God revealed there is one race-the human race. Acts 17:26-28: "And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and fin...d him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring."
2. God revealed the church is one body made up of different ethnicites. Ephesians 2:14-22: "For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit."
