Hymn For the Day

Though troubles assail, and dangers affright,

Though friends should all fail, and foes all unite;

This one thing secures us whatever betide,

His promise assures us, The Lord will provide!

The birds without barn or storehouse are fed,

From them let us learn to trust for our bread;

His saints what is needed shall ne'er be denied,

So long as 'tis written, The Lord will provide!

His call we obey like Abram of old,

We know not the way, but faith makes us bold,

For though we are strangers, we have a sure guide,

And know in all dangers The Lord will provide!

No strength of our own, nor goodness we claim;

Our trust is all cast on His precious name;

In this our strong refuge for safety we hide,

The Lord is our refuge, The Lord will provide!

When life is most o'er and death is in view,

The word of His grace will see us safe through;

Not fearing nor doubting, with Christ on our side;

We hope to die shouting, The Lord will provide!

(Tune: “O Worship the King,” p. 1)

Martin Luther wrote, “It is impossible for a man to be a Christian without having Christ. And if he has Christ he has at the same time all that is in Christ. What gives peace to the conscience is that by faith our sins are no more ours, but Christ’s, upon whom God hath laid them all and that on the other hand all Christ’s righteousness is ours. I call that the great exchange. Our sin was placed upon him. His righteousness was placed upon us. Christ lays his hand on us and we are healed. He casts his mantle upon us and we are clothed, for he is the glorious Savior, blessed forever.”

"GRACE IS A PROVISION"

Grace is a provision for men who are so fallen that they cannot lift the axe of justice, so corrupt that they cannot change their own natures, so averse to God that they cannot turn to Him, so blind that they cannot see Him, so deaf that they cannot hear Him, so dead that He Himself must open their graves and lift them into resurrection."

- G.S. Bishop

PERFECT PERFORMANCE

"I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me" (Psalm 57:2). Our Saviour performed all things for us. Our sin has been all put away. The righteousness with which we are clothed is complete. All that God's infinite justice can demand of us has been performed for us by our Substitute. Our warfare is accomplished. Our sin is pardoned. There is not one thing for us to do to complete the work of Christ. This word performeth means perfecteth. "I will cry unto God most high, unto God who perfecteth all things concerning me." David is confident that what God has said will come to pass. He is so sure of God's purpose, that while he is fleeing for his life, he praises and blesses God that He is perfecting that which concerns him, and leading him by a sure path to the throne. The Lord God of Heaven is working every detail for our good and for His glory. No wonder he could say, "I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me."

- Pastor Milton Howard

I Corinthians 1:7

The coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The wicked may make ugly, blasphemous remarks in hateful mockery about the return of our Saviour, but those who love the Lord Jesus Christ long for His promised return with joyful anticipation. He Himself said, "I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am ye may be also" (John 14:3). True faith delights in the God-given promise of eternal bliss with the true and living God, the Lord Jesus Christ.

But how do God's children conduct themselves while waiting for that glorious, bright day when Christ Jesus shall return? Do we stand around gazing up into heaven? No! The early disciples of Christ were gently rebuked for this (Acts 1:9-11). Do we sell our personal property and foolishly robe our-selves in white garments and on a certain day that some religionist foolishly predicted, place ourselves in some elevated position (roof tops; high mountains; etc.)? Many have been sadly disappointed by aligning themselves with those false deceivers. So much so, that many committed suicide afterwards.

While waiting for the inevitable return of our Majestic King, we should live each day as if it is our last, and make plans as if we had another one hundred years before Christ comes again. We are labourers together with God: we are God's husbandry, we are God's building. We should be about our Father's business! The songwriter expressed this God-honoring truth with these words:

"Living for Jesus, a life that is true

Striving to please Him, in all that I do.

Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free.

This is the pathway, of blessing for me."

Brethren, this is how we should conduct ourselves while “Waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” By living for the honour and glory of the One who loved us and gave Himself for us. By proving the sincerity of our love by delighting ourselves in continual, cheerful obedience to our Lord's commands. By being filled with praise and adoration to Jesus Christ our Lord, the One who will present us FAULTLESS before Himself when He returns.

- Pastor Gene Harmon
