“Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.” Psalm 37:3
This psalm warns against frustration and discouragement for lovers of God who are surrounded by a world who cares nothing for Him. To be sure, it is a wicked world and has been since Adam’s fall. One may wonder, “Can just one person like me really make a difference and is God’s cause really worth fighting for in a world so depraved?”
Trust in the Lord, and do good! We have to remind ourselves of what God’s word makes clear over and over: God is wise, gracious, mighty and ruling with all authority over everything! He rules with such authority that He laughs derisively at those who try to overthrow Him (Ps. 37:13). Trust Him while you are living in this dark world. And do good! Obey God’s word, following Him with all your heart. Trust and obey is always sound counsel no matter who you are or what your circumstances are.
When you trust in God and do good, here’s what happens: 1. God is glorified. 2. His kingdom is advanced (if with no one else, at least in your life). 3. God will honor it and use it as He sees fit. Don’t let an evil world dampen your zeal and resolve for God’s glory. Your labor is not in vain in the Lord (I Cor. 15:58).
