“Through faith also Sarah herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.” Hebrews 11:10
Though Sarah initially laughed in disbelief at God’s promise of her bearing a son, she was brought to repentance. The result was a heart that all of us should strive for: she judged God faithful. Her true assessment of God was that He is trustworthy and faithful to His word.
Our archenemy Satan has always been on the warpath against our embracing this truth. To Eve he cast seeds of doubt in her mind about God’s goodness in His commands. He still throws doubt in our minds such as, “Can I really trust God? Is this promise still true?”
To judge God as anything less than faithful is not a tame, minor sin. Yet, you and I still struggle with it daily. May we look to God for grace to not listen to lying words, but to trust fully the same God that Sarah trusted. May we go on the warpath against unbelief by reminding ourselves of God’s trustworthiness as seen in the Scriptures and repeatedly in our own lives.
